The Pomeranian. A breed of dog from the spitz family, named after the Pomerania Region inPolandandGermany. It originally descended from the sled dogs ofIceland, and then brought toEurope.
The Pomeranian is a small or toy dog, actually, due to selective breeding. Even though, this dog breed retains the disposition of cold climates dog, being strong for survival under hard circumstances.
The Pomeranian dog weighs and average of3 to 7lib, with a wedge shaped head, and small high ears. Its distinctive coat is actually divided in two: undercoat and top coat, the first being thick and soft, while the second is straight and long. Also, the Pomeranian dog may recognize thirteen different colors or color combinations of black, red and chocolate mostly.
This is an active, smart dog, but also a loyal companion. Although it is not recommended for children interaction due to its small size, it certainly may be the family pet once the children are grown.
They can even become watchdogs, since they have a loud bark. They can adapt to urban life, but also to country living.
Also, the Pomeranian are healthy dogs, living between 12 and 16 years.
